this is where the fun begins

Hola a todos!

My first week as a missionary is almost over and a lot has already happened!

I’ve been in the Home MTC for the past week, and let me just say that I have been having a lot of fun with my district. It's been so cool to get to meet other missionaries that have such amazing testimonies of the gospel. I met my companion on Monday, Elder Fausett, and let me just say right now, this man is such a stud. He knows the scriptures really well and he has such a big heart. He is from DRUM ROLL PLEASE,,,, Payson, Utah, so not that far from BYU. Actually, almost everyone in my district is from Utah, so shout out to Utah for being a factory for missionaries. Also speaking of my district, ALL OF THE ELDERS ARE GOING TO ANTIGUA GUATEMALA, with me. This is such amazing news because that means that we will begin our mission together and finish it together as well.

My teachers have been awesome so far, their names are Hermana Garcia and Hermano Sosa. Even though they have only been my teachers for a week, my testimony has grown so much because of their faith. It’s been great to talk sports with Hermano Sosa because even though we get five minute breaks during class I usually just stay behind to talk about the Dodgers and the Lakers with him. And he's been giving me updates on what's been going on in the league.Speaking of the NBA, that's crazy how Rudy Gobert got traded to the Timberwolves, yikes. Overall, classes have been awesome, we’ve done so many activities that have brought me closer to Christ

For example, one of those activities was the devotional that I listened to with my district on tuesday. On Tuesday, we listened to Elder D Todd Christofferson share a message on helping missionaries become stronger disciples of Christ. I learned that while The Book of Mormon teaches plainly that one is accountable to God, and to the Savior in particular, for his or her life, Elder Christofferson said. “One who feels gratitude and accountability to the giver of life will live much differently from those who feel no obligation to the One who paid for their sins with His blood and redeemed them from death.”

Book of Mormon prophets teach that while the wicked take the truth to be hard, the righteous feel supported by it, he added. Those who do not repent look forward to the day of judgment with fear and dread. Hearing these messages has reminded me that the mission will have many trials, if I turn my hearts toward Christ, he will provide a way.

Overall, this past week, I have learned so much!! I have been improving my Spanish, as well as learning a lot about the gospel and my purpose as a missionary. I just want y’all to know how much Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ loves you.

Until next time,

Elder Flores

Highlights:

  • We said goodbye to our family van that's been in use since the early Compton days, and now it's been sold and being shipped off to Africa to be used by a family in need.
  • When Elder Munguia,, (Who is a teacher at the Mexico MTC), came into our class the first day, he had trouble pronouncing a lot of the last names of the missionaries in my district, but when it came to me he said: Elder Flores? ES MUY FACIL, it was a great moment.
  • Got told by Hermano Munguia that if we complete our EI test before our six weeks are over at the MTC, that he will choke us out when we get there, except for the sisters of course..
  • Got my stitches removed from my surgery, this is amazing news because that means I will be able to do exercises again
  • Lastly, me and Elder Godfrey got our 2 on 2 basketball teams arranged for when we arrive to the Mexico MTC, it's going to go down.
