cuidado con el pollo rojo

 ¡¡Hola Hola!!

Buenas tardes from Mexico

This week was the definition of CRAZY. Sunday started off with three of the elders in my district getting sick from the Pollo Rojo that the CCM served for dinner. I remember Hermano Sosa warned my district not to eat it, but like 5 of the elders in my district ignored that warning and put hot sauce on the Pollo Rojo as well, and yeah I'm pretty sure yall can figure out what happened next🤮. I did try some of the Pollo Rojo and it didn't affect me at all. I have my Mom’s Mexican dishes to thank for building up my stomach to handle such a dish.

Tuesday was also a crazy day as well. To sum it up we had two missionaries in my district get sick, my companion got hit in the eye by a Frisbee, and it left a purple mark, and an Elder in my district broke a glass window of one of the houses the missionaries stay in with a baseball…… homeboy was trying to be Clayton Kershaw out here

Classes have continued to be so fun while learning Español with my district. I have bonded with my district closely over the past few weeks and my knowledge of the gospel has expanded due to their insights and perspectives. My teacher, Hermana Garcia and Hermano Sosa have definitely contributed as well, can't forget about Hermano Munguia as well… During class I and some of the elders in the district decided that it would be a good idea to practice Spanish by translating the words of some of our favorite songs in English into Español. I chose Something In the Way by Nirvana, which is the song that is played a few times in the recent Batman movie. My friends from BYU can testify how much I love that movie and that song. Anyways, Something In the Way literally translates to ALGO EN EL CAMINO, so me and the other missionaries in my districts have been humming "ALGO EN EL CAMINO HMMMM MMMMM" randomly during class time as a way to practice our Spanish, it's been the running joke of our week. We did the same thing with One More Time and Around the World by Daft Punk as well.

On to the spiritual notes. All of the missionaries at the CCM sang together as a choir: As sisters in Zion/ Army of Helaman in ESPAÑOL, for the devotional on Tuesday, it was such an awesome moment to sing with so many missionaries. I felt the spirit so strong as I sang the words: "Como el ejército de Helamán, debemos obedecer." Man, I teared up during that line; it was such a powerful moment to sing with over 500 missionaries. I know that the presidency of the CCM recorded us singing the song so if I find a link I'll be sure to send it to yall!! The wife of the president of the CCM yelled "YAAAHOOOO" when we sung the medley during our practice session so I'm sure that it sounded amazing since she jumped up and took pictures of us like a soccer mom.

Today for P-day we had the opportunity to go to the Mexico City temple. It was such a spiritual experience to go to the temple with my district, I felt the spirit so strong there and it was an unique experience to have my first endowment session in Español! One interesting fact that I learned about the Mexico City Temple is that it's owned by the federal government of Mexico, not the church. And the Mexico City Temple is the largest temple outside of the United States!! I am truly grateful for every time that I get the privilege to enter into the House of the Lord because just as everything on the earth is to bring us to Christ, everything in the church is to bring us to the temple. Everything we do in the temple is to purify us and prepare us to enter into the Kingdom of God.

Time has been flying by so fast at the CCM, there is still a lot to learn before I head to Guatemala, but I would like to share some of my insights from what I learned this week from my personal studies. This week, I studied charity which is known as the pure love of Christ. It is the Love that Jesus Christ had for the children of men and that the children of men should have for one another. It is the highest, noblest, and strongest kind of love that Christ has for literally everyone. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of charity. In His mortal ministry, He always “went about doing good,” teaching the gospel and showing tender compassion for the poor, afflicted, and distressed. As disciples of Christ, we should all strive to love others and be an example of charity to others. The Savior wants all people to receive His love and to share it with others. He declared to His disciples:

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:34–35

I invite you guys this week to be an example of charity to others.

Have a great week!!

Highlights

  • Ya boi got asked to play the piano for the MTC devotional on the 31st so wish me luck because all of the missionaries and Presidency of the MTC will be there, including a special guest (stay tuned….)
  • I'm working on a special hymn arrangement of How Great Thou Art with Hermana Baldwin who's a missionary in my district. I think we're going to play for our branch next week during sacrament meeting. She will be on the violin and I will be on the piano.
  • I showed Hermano Sosa how to find and listen to DONDA 2 and he was so happy 🤣
  • Esteban (the MTC cook) brought me some pan dulce for breakfast on Tuesday and man it made all of the difference, he's been such a homie. Pan dulce in Mexico hits different😫
  • I had the opportunity to do my first service project as a missionary this week. All we did was clean houses on the MTC campus, but the Señoras were grateful that we made their job easier.
