Vamos a México
¡¡Hola hola!!
Another week of online MTC has passed. This week definitely went by faster than my first week, but man, it got off to a crazy start.
Due to an unforeseen family emergency, I had to say an early goodbye to my dad on Sunday for the next two years. He left to be with my family in Utah for a while. I would ask if yall could keep Familia Flores in your prayers. That would be great.
Overall this week was good though. I got used to the schedule of classes and I have gotten closer to the other missionaries in mi distrito. This week my companion and I had our first practice lesson with my online MTC teacher, Hermana García. She acted as an investigator by the name of Carolina Hernandez. Elder Fausett and I struggled with the first lesson because we were under the impression that she would be acting as a referral that already had her first lesson with the missionaries, so we tried teaching her about the Plan of Salvation, but it turned out to be her first time so we ended up teaching her the first vision on the spot. It didn’t turn out to be that bad, but we could’ve done a lot better job. The next lesson, Elder Fausett and I were able to teach her about the Plan of Salvation and I have to say we did a pretty good job that time, so shout out to Carolina Hernandez for her progress so far.
This week we had a substitute teacher for Hermano Garcia because the Mexico MTC was short staffed with teachers so we had Hermana Barrera for a week. So I wasn't able to get any updates on the Dodgers and Lakers unfortunately😭. However, I took a lot of notes from her, she really knows her stuff about articles and conjugation in Spanish. Even though she was only my teacher for a few days, I really enjoyed my time with Hermana Barrera because her testimony about missionary work clarified to me that I am making the best decision right now to serve a mission.
I had a funny moment with Hermana Barrera this week. One time during break she left her tab open on Zoom and I was able to see her conversation on WhatsApp, she was talking about Stranger Things Season 4 with some of the other teachers at the Mexico MTC, so when class resumed and she started talking, I could hear from her audio that there was a bell that rung, probably from a catholic church, nearby Hermana Barreras house, so I told her, “Hermana Barrera, es el reloj de Vecna” (That's Vecna's clock), the whole class started laughing it was a pretty funny moment.
This past week, I was able to listen to Elder Gongs devotional with mi distrito, and man, it was such an amazing experience. Elder Gong invited full-time missionaries to embrace three needful ideas to become faithful and valiant in their service that I would like to share with you
Seek perfection in Christ, not the perfectionism of the world
Follow the doctrine of Christ and invite others to do so as well
Preach Christ Jesus the Lord and the fulness of the restored gospel and Church
Out of those three needful things, the one that stood out to me the most is “Seek Perfection in Christ” There are a lot of social media traps of “insta-perfect” Sometimes as human beings we may compare ourselves to others that we see online, but it's important to remember that these images are curated images, which are not realistic, too often these thoughts may lead to depression or anxiety and make us feel inadequate. It's important that we remember that there is a savior out there who loves us no matter what. I would like to extend Elder Gong's invitation to yall to try to draw closer to Christ this week, than the perfectionism of the world.
Overall, online MTC was incredible. Even through many hours of Zoom meetings, I was able to feel the spirit so strongly with mi distrito these past two weeks, I can't wait to meet them in person next week. God really is there for us, and helps us become better if we come to Him. I finally fly out to Mexico City on Tuesday where I will do four more weeks of training before flying out to Guatemala where I will spend the rest of my mission. I'll make sure to keep yall posted.
Have a great week!
P.S If you guys could send me some of your favorite spiritual uplifting songs that would be great. I have been listening to The Lower Lights lately, and they have been amazing, but if you guys could send me some recommendations for me to take I would appreciate it!
Highlights
- I basically had a three day weekend because since my Pday is on Saturday, we have no class that day, and then the following day was Sunday, so no classes at all, and then the CCM gave us half of the day off for the 4th of July 🥳
- Okay so as a district we were going around saying an unpopular opinion that we each have and when it came to Hermana Peterson, she said that “All of the Star Wars movies are overrated” I was like UHHH WHATT, and I meant to react to her opinion with the poop emoji as a joke 💩, but I reacted with the cat with heart eyes emoji 😻as a mistake, the whole district decided to make a joke out of it because when I said my unpopular opinion, they all reacted with the cat with heart eyes emoji, it was pretty funny
- Me and Hermana Baldwin discovered that we were in the same mission prep class at BYU, it's a small world for realllll.
- Elder Godfrey said that he would give me his “pantalones cortos de los lakers” (Lakers shorts) 😂when we meet at the Mexico MTC. He's been wearing them to class this week.
